Geographic database to be made accesible online PDF Print E-mail

PUTRAJAYA: The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry is preparing a legal framework that will make all geographical data like natural disaster sites, land use and earthworks available on a comprehensive online database, said its minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas.

Uggah said the ministry was now looking at the laws introduced in several countries to make the creation of such a comprehensive database possible before adapting it for use here under the National Geo-spatial Data Infrastructure Centre (MaCGDI).

WITH just a click, Kajang residents can know more about the local plan, crime hot spots in Kajang and certain geographical information via an online Geographical Information System (GIS).

Integrated GeoPlanning Sdn Bhd managing director Zaini Nordin gave councillors at the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) full board meeting a preview of the system recently.

LANGKAWI, Fri: Images recorded by the national remote sensing satellite, RazakSAT, which orbited the earth along the equator will be made available to users, such as government agencies and bodies, beginning next year, said Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Fadillah Yusof.

GIS To Increase Safety In Iskandar Malaysia PDF Print E-mail

JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- In a bid to help police beef up safety in Iskandar Malaysia, a Geographic Information System (GIS) will be set up in the development region.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said two software were given to the Johor Contingent Police from the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) to launch the system.

"We hope by using this system foreign investors will be more confident about the safety in Iskandar Malaysia and encourage them to carry out economic activities there," he said after a presentation ceremony of two GIS-equipped computers to Irda chief executive officer, Ismail Ibrahim, here Thursday.

PUTRAJAYA: The deputy prime minister has called to heighten joint enforcement initiatives among state governments, the Wildlife Department and Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department to curb encroachment and poaching.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this was one of the many steps needed to ensure the sound management and conservation of biodiversity.
Effective measures would enable Malaysia to enjoy its rich biodiversity as a new source of wealth, he said in a statement yesterday after chairing the sixth National Biodiversity-Biotechnology Council, now renamed the National Biodiversity Council.

He said the council had agreed to expand the National Biodiversity Integrated Spatial Data Base Development Project to the whole peninsula (Phase 1) as well as pilot areas in Sabah and Sarawak (Phase 2).
