Source: The Star (page 4) CYBERTOWERS Sdn Bhd, which launched its cybertrack system yesterday, will be investing between RM10mil and RM20mil to expand the system regionally. Managing director Wong Yet Long said the investment would encompass expenditure in hardware, software and the operation of the system. Cybertrack is Malaysia's first Internet-based monitoring system which has the ability to track fleets, vehicles and any form of movable assets round the clock. It uses the state-of-the-art satellite and communication technology. Cybertowers is a Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status firm. "Our expansion of the product will be into neighbouring countries and later to northern Asia, especially China, where there is a good market for tracking systems," he said after the launch of Cybertraack in Kuala Lumpur. According to Cybertowers director Lai Chiam Ho, the company has invested about RM4mil in developing the system. Lai added that the company was expecting between 5,000 to 10,000 installations of the tracking system in the next one year. It is targeting the transport as well as the insurance and car rental industries. Cybertowers general manager Claudia Liu said the firm hoped to list on the Malaysian Exchange of Securities Dealing and Automated Quotation (Mesdaq) by next year and towards this end, was preparing the relevant documents. Meanwhile, Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd senior vice-president (operations) Dr Mohamed Arif Nun, who officiated at the launch, said the number of MSC-status companies had grown to 343. "Of these, the greatest participation comes from local companies. They form 59% of the total number of approved companies," he said. Cybertowers is a 51:49 joint venture between Demi Maju Sdn Bhd and Canada's Phoenix Geophysics Ltd.
