NEW Technology Innovation Sdn Bhd (NTI) yesterday signed a contract valued at nearly RM15 million for the second phase of the upgrading of the computer-assisted mapping system (CAMS) with the Ministry of Land and Cooperative Development.

CAMS is currently used by the surveying and mapping department which is under the ministry.

With this move, the department will speed up map production and diversify its product range to include a new kind of map which is expected to be in great demand in future.

NTI's chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Yusoff Mohamed, said this contract gave the company an opportunity to provide more services to the country, especially in the field of information technology.

"Our objective is to provide good service to our customers so that they can also deliver good service to other customers," he said.

Mohd Yusoff said NTI believed this system upgrade would contribute to the successful evolution of e-business and the k-economy.

The contract covers the supply, delivery, preparation of sites, installation, testing, training of staff and commissioning of the system covering hardware and software.

It covers a map publishing system from Barco, photogrammetry system from LH Systems, EMC enterprise network storage system and disaster recovery system from EMC Computer Systems Malaysia.

NTI's solution for the CAMS upgrade, Phase II would be designed to effectively handle increased demands for digital topographic data production, storage and disaster recovery.
