Swastapark Sdn Bhd's toll-free line will be soon be used to receive detailed information on streets, main roads and highways near its parking meters.

The company's chief executive officer Razali Abdul Aziz said the company came up with its GIS Application System last year which would have detailed maps.

"By merely punching in the meter number, the area where its located will appear and we can see the street and any landmarks nearby," he added.

Razali said from there, the staff could zoom in to a particular area until the street and shoplots could be seen.

He said the system was initially created to make it easier for staff manning the hotlines to direct technicians to parking meters that were faulty.

However, Razali said the company realised that the system could also benefit the public by providing directions to those in need.

He said all one had to do was call the toll-free line and let the staff know of the nearest parking meter number or the street name.

"The staff would then be able to direct the person from there," he said.

Swastapark public relations officer Carolyne Yong said for now, the system was only ready for the Petaling Jaya.

"Maps for Subang Jaya, Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Klang are expected to ready before the end of the year," she said.

She added that the company started working on the system in January last year.

"It takes time because the names of each street, road and highway have to be keyed in manually with the number of houses, shops and factories along a stretch," she said.

Razali said the company was compiling the names and locations of services like hospitals, clinics, workshops, banks and even colleges to be added to the GIS system.

He said it would take time to collect and key in all the data but the company aimed to finish its map by the end of the year.
