Council president Mohd Yusup Badul said the system would be a great help to the council in planning development projects.

He said the council was in the process of having its own town planning unit to process applications for developments projects.

The GIS could play a vital role in helping the council monitor the impact of projects on the environment. Mohd Yusup said officers from the Selangor Planning department were helping the council set up the system.

"As the council has appointed a new urban and rural planning officer, Nazam Sahari, the planning and building plan department headed by him will take over the responsibility," he added. He said developers can expect their applications to be processed faster with the implementation of the GIS.

"The GIS will help the council monitor the environment and provide up to date details on physical development and the natural vegetation in the district."
