In an effort to add more value to customers in the local market, Ersis Asia Sdn Bhd, the sole distributor of the MapInfo Geographic Information System (GIS) in Malaysia, will be coming out with a Bahasa Melayu version of the product.

Development on the local version of the package which was created by Ersis Australia Pty Ltd, has been going on for quite some time and it is expected to be available next month.

The version will enable users to toggle between English and Bahasa Melayu, according to Ersis Asia, which also operates in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Solomon Island and Papua New Guinea.

The latest move from the company reflects a greater localization of the package. Currently, all MapInfo systems sold in Malaysia already incorporate a Bahasa Melayu on-line help system. Ersis Asia which is a joint venture between Ersis Australia and Malaysian business partners hopes that the new version will further boost its growing business in the local market.

In response to the growing customer base, the company set up its Kuala Lumpur office, which operates as the headquaters for the region last March.

Locally, MapInfo has been installed at more than 100 sites for various applications including executive information systems, municipal information systems, building management systems and GIS.

Local users of MapInfo include the Johor State Economic Planning Unit, Kerian District Council, Department of Survey and Mapping and the Works Department.
