Canada-based Tydac Technologies Inc, formerly known as Intera Tydac Technologies Inc, is aiming to capture a sizeable share of the Asia-Pacific market with its new spatial analysis system (SPANS) Explorer, a desktop geographical analysis software.

"In line with the company's development plan, we are focusing on increasing our market share by identifying users' needs as we realize that they require attention and proper support from Tydac," said Tydac's international (Asia Pacific) sales manager John S. Crant.

Tydac redefined its business and marketing strategies and management operations following its acquisition by the US-based PCI group of companies last February.

SPANS is used worldwide for environmental analyses, forestry inventory, hydrological modeling, geological exploration, digital terrain analysis and wildlife habitat management.

Crant told reporters at a GIS seminar jointly organized with Mesiniaga last Tuesday that there are currently over 3,5000 SPANS installed in 64 countries worldwide with Canada being the biggest user with more than 100 installations followed by Europe and Asia Pacific.

Tydac has identified Thailand as its biggest market in this region and hopes to garner a bigger share with its new SPANS explorer.

Mesiniaga, the local distributor for Tydac SPANS GIS products, has so far installed 12 systems at local universities and the public sector.

Having mapped out an aggressive marketing plan, Mesiniaga is now focusing on engineering consultant firms and private consulting companies specializing in environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies.

"We are confident of doubling the current sales revenue of RM0.5 million as well as the number of user base for SPANS Explorer as it is low in cost, high in functionality and designed to compete in the local market," said Mesiniaga's marketing manager Abdul Mushir Che Cik.

SPANS Explorer is said to provide a complete solutions to perform fundamental analysis of geographical data as well as cater for low-end and non-technical users with its easy-to-use graphical user interface.

The systems requirements for SPANS GIS and SPANS MAP include IBM PC, PS/2 or compatibles with a math co-processor running on OS/2 or Windows. The product will be shipped next month with an introductory price of US2,995.
