<p><font color="#808080">Source: The Star</font></p><p>ASIA Geographical Information Systems (M) Sdn Bhd (Agis) is confident of good response from private car owners for its newly launched <i>agisMonitor</i> vehicle monitoring system. <p> Agis managing director Peter Reeves said the company was holding discussions with several car dealers and manufacturers to offer the vehicle monitoring system as an optional item. <p> "We are expecting to conclude several agreements with parties soon," he told reporters at the launch of agisMonitor by Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Amar Leo Moggie in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. <p> AgisMonitor is an intelligent mobile personal remote control vehicle monitoring system with global positioning system (GPS) and geographical information system (GIS) features. <p> Agis will provide the solutions for the affordable vehicle monitoring system, while leading mobile network company Celcom (M) Bhd will provide always-on wireless cellular services to ensure nationwide coverage for the system. <p> agisMonitor works by allowing a subscriber to track and secure their vehicle which with a handphone. <p> Vehicle owners can also use a Hewlett-Packard iPAQ pocket personal computer to view an on-screen map which displays their vehicle location and travel destination in real-time. <p> Celcom group chief executive Datuk Ramli Abbas said the vehicle monitoring system was part of the company's strategy to continuously offer value-added services to its customers. <p> "After the completion of the merger of Celcom and TMTouch, we are also looking at extending the vehicle monitoring service to TMTouch customers," he said. <p> Celcom executive vice-president C.Y.Chin said Celcom's cellular network, which currently provides coverage to 95% of the country's populated areas, would be able to offer better connection to the vehicle monitoring service once Celcom's coverage is expanded to 100%. <p> Agis chief operating officer Sunny Lim Yik Chye said the <i>agisMonitor</i> package is priced at RM4,000 each with an annual service charge of RM480.
