The agreements signed with International Wireless Technologies Sdn Bhd (IWT) and might-Meteor Advance Manufacturing Sdn Bhd was for the introduction of ICAR, a small screen in vehicles which would give drivers and passengers navigation directions, Internet capability and anti-theft protection.

An agreement was also signed yesterday to have ICAR manufactured at Alcatel's manufacturing plant in Penang.

Thales Telematics Plc and Might-Meteor, a group member of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (Might) signed a technical collaboration in Kuala Lumpur to develop, manufacture, and sell ICAR products to the local market.

France-based Thales director Stephen Clark said ICAR would be available in Malaysia before the end of the year.

Clark was confident that several hundred unit of ICAR would be sold here since it is popular in many European countries and South Africa.

Thales is also using Malaysia as a launch pad into South-East Asia.

ICAR was showcased at the recent KL International Motor Show and the response had been encouraging, said Might-Meteor chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Zaharuddin Idrus.

Zaharudin added that talks with the vehicle accessory distributors were under way to introduce ICAR in cars.
