Source: The Star A total of 50,000 maps of Kuantan town will be distributed to the public in conjunction with the National Day celebration hosted by Pahang this year. The foldable illustrated map was jointly produced by the Kuantan Youth Association, the Kuantan Municipal Council (MPK) and several companies. It shows the locations of tourist spots, hotels, police stations and also contains several smaller maps of districts, including Gambang, Indera Mahkota, Beserah and Tanjung Lumpur. Association chairman and Beserah state assemblyman Datuk Faisal Abdullah said the map, produced at RM1 each, was created with the help of MPK and students from Kolej Politeknik Sultan Ahmad Shah and Kolej Shahputra. The maps, he added, would be distributed to motorists at six entry points to Kuantan, including the toll booths at the East Coast Expressway, hotels and petrol stations. "We expect that all the maps will be distributed, and we will produce more next year," he said after attending the launching of the map at Wisma Sri Pahang in Kuantan on Thursday. MPK president Datuk Hashim Abdul Wahad, who also attended the launch, said the map was based on the council's latest directory map of the town. He said that MPK workers would also distribute the maps to MPK clients from Monday. "We hope that a similar map will be produced in English in future for the benefit of foreign tourists in Kuantan," he added.
