Source: New Straits Times Kuala Lumpur, Wed. - The Malaysian Centre for Remote Sensing (Macres) can assist Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Bhd (PLUS), the expressway concessionaire, identify stretches of the expressway via remote sensing technology.Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ruddin Abdul Ghani said through global positioning system, "it can provide information on earth movements for corrective action to be taken". "Macres can help PLUS by giving weekly reports on the topographical position of high-risk areas," he said. From the information, PLUS could forsee whether a landslide would occur at a particular time at the hillslopes of high-risk areas along the expressway. This will help avert untoward incidents," he said when commenting on the major landslide at Km303 of the North-South Expressway, near Gua Tempurung in Gopeng, on Monday night.
