PETALING JAYA: Small and medium enterprises (SME) will now be able to identify and analyse potential locations for business expansion through SmartMap, an online map application launched by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and three partners. To enhance its services to the SME market, TM was collaborating with its wholly-owned subsidiary TM Info-Media and also with iProperty.com Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Malaysia Franchise Association. SmartMap offers a Web-based solution that enabled interactive analysis including area ring search and zoning, plotting of internal data and sharing of visual data. The initial investment for this service by TM was over RM1mil. “SmartMap combines TM's digital map with valuable business data that provide businesses with geographical and demographical data to help them make more informed business decisions,” executive vice-president Azizi A. Hadi said at the launch. He added: “It provides access to demographical distribution, property valuation and other business information vital in determining the best location to set up or expand a business or even potential target market.” The virtual map would be updated monthly with all data sourced from the Department of Statistics and iProperty. Azizi said the map would be promoted to TM's existing SME customers before reaching out to new customers. TM now has 463,000 SME customers that contribute about 20% of the company's total revenue.
