Source: New Straits Times (page 11) SSM Advanced Technology Sdn Bhd (SSMAT) has been included in the world-class partner programme of geographical information system (GIS) provider Smallworld Systems Pte Ltd.As a partner, SSMAT will be responsible for distributing and implementing Smallworld GIS solutions in local utility companies, government agencies and engineering sites. SSMAT's managing director Hasanuddin Sabran said the solutions would be customised to suit local needs. He added the appointment would enable the company to provide value and benefits to existing as well as potential users of Smallworld GIS. Hasanuddin was speaking to reporters after the handling over of the World-Class Partner plaque to SSMAT last week. On hand to receive the plaque from Smallworld Systems Asia Pacific's managing director Peter Britnell was SSMAT's chairman Mohd Ibrahim Ahmad. According to Hasanudin, SSMAT is conducting a pilot GIS project using Smallworld GIS for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)'s distribution system in Rawang. The project includes data conversion, site verification, data reconciliation and Smallworld GIS application department. "We are also working to integrate the system with TNB's planning tools. Under this project, TNB Rawang will be able to increase productivity whereby their engineers and planners are assured of immediate access to the database for detailed maps or network drawings and associated data," Hasanuddin said. According to Britnell, the world-class partner programme was planned to provide Smallworld's partners with continuos global standards and processes when carrying out businesses. "With this kind of programme, we will be able to offer value added services to our customers." Britnell added that the programme features a showcase of service providers who have demonstrated expertise with Smallworld's technology. Formal authorisation of partners comes only after individual staff members have been through Smallworld training and become accredited in their areas of specialisation, he said. It takes about six months for the partners to complete the whole set of training. At present, Smallworld has six partners in Malaysia including SSMAT.
