Source: The New Straits Times (page 24) The Maltrac Software for road trip planner, the first digital map covering Peninsular Malaysia, will be a useful tool for utility companies.Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, who launched the Maltrac software in Penang yesterday, was impressed with the road trip planner. The digital map would be particularly useful for companies like Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd and the Penang Water Authority in locating faults as well as improving efficiency, he said. The State Government will look into the possibility of introducing the system in government departments. The software is developed by OTC Digital Mapping Services Sdn Bhd, a Penang-based company involved in Global Positioning System. Managing director S.K. Ong said the software's database covered all major roads, districts, areas and 230 industrial areas besides 7,000 industries, 700 hotels, 250 points of interests, restaurants and government offices. "We are the first company in Malaysia that has fully developed this digital map for use in navigation, tracking and directional trip planning," he said. The software will also have a list of directories of companies and their locations. Information in the software will be updated bi-annually. The attractive part about this comprehensive software is its price. Once it hits the shelves next month, a CD-ROM road trip planner software will cost between RM100 and RM150. Another product in the offing is a software map for vehicle tracking. Appointed as the official multimedia and IT provider for Lima '99, Ong said OTC might launch their second software in Langkawi by the end of the year.
