Source: New Straits Times (page 6) Penang, Fri. - Promoting comprehensive and progressive town planning through information technology is one objective of the coming State-level International Town Planning Day celebrations.To be held on March 28-29 at the Shangri-La Hotel here with the theme "Planning Digital", the interactive convention aims to provide a platform for the sharing of information on IT usage in town planning systems. Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Leo Moggie is expected to officiate. State Town and Local Government Planning department director Mohd Jamil Ahmad said participants would also be introduced to new IT developments and applications. Some 250 participants including academicians, researchers, local council authorities, architects and housing developers are expected to attend. There will also be an exhibition on the use of software such as AutoCAD, MapInfo, WinGIS and Global Positioning System. The convention is a belated one held in conjunction with the International Town Planning Day on Nov 8 last year. Fees are RM200 for individuals, RM100 for government employees and RM25 for students.
