Having a problem? Just check that treasure house and you'd find everything you need - from A to Z, it has all the answers you need. We're are talking about the Yellow Pages, that old faithful sitting underneath your telephone, or in the drawer.

Undoubtedly, the handiest shopping centre in town, the Yellow Pages works all year round, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is a time saver, and a convenient and complete guide. Leaf through it and you'll be amazed by the information that leaps up to you.

Not only is the Yellow Pages a directory classified alphabetically as well as according to business classification, it is also a storehouse of ideas you can draw from for inspiration and networking.

"The Yellow Pages is a comprehensive business directory that offers a complete buying guide for products and services," says Haji Khairuddin Jamaluddin, CEO of Telekom Publications Sdn Bhd, the publishing arm of Telekom Malaysia.

With regional offices all over Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, and more than 100 sales staff creating awareness of the product, Yellow Pages currently has a target of 4.9 million circulation in the country.

Recognising the evolution in business, the company introduced Yellow Pages on the Internet to the public in 1997, a move that is in tandem with Telekom Malaysia's foray in the Multimedia Super Corridor.

Today you can surf the Malaysia Internet Yellow Pages at www.yellowpages.com.my for an array of advertisements online.

"Last year we further intensified our multimedia ventures by introducing the Geographical Information System (GIS) where the public can have access to maps of business locations.

"This website at www.map.com.my is currently accessible only to Klang Valley residents. We're working on Johor at the moment and will eventually expand this service to other states," Khairuddin informs.

Being Telekom Malaysia's subsidiary and having access to its huge database, Telekom Publications can naturally maximise its subsciber potential. Apart from that, it has the added advantage of state-of-the-art technology and innovations in terms of software and equipment.

"Telekom Publications has created a subsidiary to handle the multimedia business like the GIS, the Internet Yellow Pages and E-Commerce which we're working on with our parent company.

"Called Cybermall, our subsidiary has attained the MSC status."

Whatever steps it takes, Telekom Publications is out to ensure it retains its stronghold at the forefront of the directory industry.
